Dreams, in its original form is quite anthemic, euphoric even, but here it is rendered into a more dreamy vision, toeing the line perfectly between the drowsiness of that waking moment and the realization that this is a new day and anything is possible. It wanders a more shimmering and chiming path, takes its time and both cocoons and energises the listener.

The original was wrought of bass grooves, sparing keyboard lines and delicate guitar motifs, here it is reworked into a more undulating and ornate soundscape, one built more of textures and atmospheres, space and see-through gossamer layers rather than the more traditional sound which gave birth to the song.

And rather than merely reinterpreting the song, Jacques instead gives it a new place to inhabit, lyrically the same but musically given a new and of-the-moment lease of life, one which allows it to explore new possibilities whilst never losing sight of the precision and beauty of the Fleetwood Mac classic.

Too many artists approach other people’s work with an eye on nostalgia, happy to rework classic moments but not tinker with them too much. Rich Jacques deals in potential, interested less in the current timeline from the song’s journey from its point of creation to the present day, more interested in where that song might go next. This is not the sound of the past being reworked to fit with current tastes, this is the sound of the song being projected into the future.
